MARTIN Weir looks set to make his first Worcester City appearance in almost two months at Stafford Rangers in the Dr Martens League Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

The former Kidderminster Harriers central defender has shaken off a knee injury suffered in the FA Cup win over Cirencester back in September.

He successfully came through a midweek reserve outing, and although manager John Barton is yet to reveal his starting line-up, Weir is likely to partner Mark Tucker in the centre.

Carl Heeley is likely to switch to right-back to cover for dislocated shoulder victim Chris Greenman.

Barton said: "I don't like moving players from a position where they have been doing particularly well, but there is a possibility that could happen."

Up front Chris Jefferson could get another chance to shine after impressing in the midweek Dr Martens Cup win over Blakenall, although Barton may opt for the greater experience of Micky Cotter or Carl Tranter -- both recovered from injury -- alongside 16-goal top scorer Mark Owen.

Barton added: "He impressed everybody with his performance the other night and it has given him a start.

"The performance was good enough to give him some credibility in the dressing room which is also important."

Paul Carty may also be in line for a recall in midfield after serving a one-match suspension.

Tomorrow will be City's first league game since October 23 and they have dropped to ninth while not in action. Barton said: "We would like the opportunity to get some points on the board and regain the places we lost by not playing."

But he expects another tough contest at newly-promoted Stafford, who won 4-2 at St George's Lane back in August.

However, with Stafford's Marston Road ground still very heavy after the recent rain, a pitch inspection is planned for 10am tomorrow.

Barton added: "There are no easy games in our standard of football and looking at our league, things have evened out. It will be an intriguing game and we are looking forward to it."
