A TOUCHING but witty play portraying the life of two women engaged in a passionate affair before the Second World War is to be recreated at Tewkesbury's Roses Theatre.

Production company Not the National Theatre, made up of former National Theatre actors, is to perform Vita & Virginia next Wednesday at 7.30pm.

The play relives the lives of renowned writer Virginia Woolf and younger woman Vita Sackville-West who engaged in the affair for 22 years.

The performance is centred on letters between the women, filled with mutual adoration, wit and social commentary. The letters tell tales of The Bloomsbury Set and life through the early 20th Century.

Youngsters can also enjoy a classic panto tale with a difference as Jill and the Beanstalk comes to the theatre on Saturday, November 25.

The show, which starts at 2pm, tells the story of Jill, who sells her dad's car for magic beans and then is sucked into her computer screen. There, she encounters a world of computer games, a prince who wants to be less of a hero and a princess who wants to fight monsters.
