MALVERN Singers will be joining choirs from across the West Midlands for a massive weekend of concerts next Saturday and Sunday.

The group will be taking part in the National Association of Choirs event at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on November 25 and 26.

The event will bring together 25 other choirs and four bands.

Tom O'Malley, a tenor with the Malvern Singers, said they were all looking forward to the event.

"It's one of the highlights of the year," he said.

"We do lots of concerts for charity during the year but we have never been to an event like this where there will be so many other choirs and such a large audience," said Mr O'Malley.

He said that last year they sang on BBC Hereford & Worcester's CD of Christmas music in aid of Children in Need.

"But this will be the biggest thing we've taken part in," he said.

They will join several other choirs in singing a song from each country in the United Kingdom.

"We'll be singing Jerusalem, Danny Boy, Amazing Grace and a Welsh hymn," said Mr O'Malley.

"We've been rehearsing for the last few weeks but we'll be doing the four pieces as a massed choir so it's difficult to know how it will sound," he said.

The Malvern Singers is a mixed voice choir of about 45 members and it was founded in 1969 as the West Malvern Choral Society.

The Singers give several concerts each year and they have won the Helen Cass Cup at Worcester Music Festival for two years running.

The aim of the choir is to foster the love of good music, entertain the public and assist charitable organisations.

Tickets to the Birmingham event are available from the NIA box office on 0870 7898841.
