ON the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month members of the Powick & Callow End branch of the Royal British Legion remembered the dead of two world wars.

A short Act of Remembrance took place at the War memorial last Saturday, where the Standard was carried by John Mason and the poppy wreath laid by Neville Fairbairn. Bill Haywood spoke the words of the Homage and trumpeter Steve Vizard sounded the Last Post and Reveille. Trevor Barry ended the two' minutes silence with the Khomia prayer.

On Sunday, members assembled at the village hall and marched to the War Memorial led by Standard bearer John Mason, escorted by George Gibson and John Bartlett. Once again the Homage was spoken by Bill Haywood and the Khomia prayer by David Brickell. A poppy wreath on behalf of the Powick & Callow End branch of the Royal British Legion was laid by Neville Fairbairn and Councillor Tom Wells laid a wreath on behalf of Malvern Hills District Council. Following the Last Post and Reveille, sounded by Steven Vizard, a service led by the Rev David Nichol was held in St James' Church. Readings were given by John Bartlett and David Brickell. After the service, refreshments were served for all members of the British Legion at the Old Bush Inn.

Branch members Fred Davies and Trevor Barry recently passed a recruitment course at Tidworth and are happy to give information to anyone wishing to become a member of the Royal British Legion. If you have not served in the armed forces you can still join.
