YOUNG entrepreneurs at St Mary's Convent School, Worcester, have come up with a unique idea which they hope will earn them a top business title.

The youngsters have set up their own Young Enterprise company which will organise golf days for just £25.

Sixteen-year-old Gemma Goddard says the 12 directors are determined to make money out of their venture. They also hope to make it through to the Young Enterprise West Midlands Regional Finals.

"Eagle Expectations is now registered and the first venture will be on Thursday, January 4 when we have organised a golf day at Bromsgrove Golf Club," said Gemma.

"Tickets will include tea and coffee, a light breakfast and lunch, plus the chance to use the driving range and play 18 holes.

"We are determined to make a success of the business and get through to the finals and beyond."

Gemma says she and her fellow directors are all busy studying for their A-levels in the school's sixth form.

They received a start-up pack, presented a business plan and are each able to buy four shares in the company.

The idea of arranging golf days was the brainwave of fellow pupil Lucy Androlia - the company's managing director - and the girls have notified local businesses, friends and family for support.

"We have already got some participants for our first event but we have more spaces still available," said Gemma.

"We have some more days planned at clubs in Droitwich and will be looking at other venues in the county."

Chris Garner, headmaster of St Mary's Convent, said the school had a long tradition dating back 15 years of forming Young Enterprise companies.

"We haven't won yet but we have been very close," said Mr Garner. "Eagle Expectations smacks of being very successful because the girls have so much drive.

"They have shown a great deal of initiative and I am sure they will very successful. This is the first time we have formed a company which provides a service."
