Shipton Oliffe 1, Bretforton Ladies 3

THE wind and rain failed to dampen Bretforton's enthusiasm as they recorded a comfortable Severn League victory in Cheltenham.

The win lifted the villagers to second place in the table and leaves them in good heart for Saturday's home game at Evesham High School against Division One leaders Gloucester (11am).

They were soon in front courtesy of Deb Slatter's neat finish following a short corner but the visitors failed to capitalise as they fluffed several chances to increase their lead.

They paid the price when Shipton levelled after a break through the middle before the interval but it didn't take Bretforton too long to restore their advantage after the restart.

Slatter was again the scorer following a goalmouth scramble and victory was sealed ten minutes from time. Sophie Corbett played a long ball to Lisa Workman and the prolific scorer beat the goalkeeper with ease to make the final score 3-1.

A young Bretforton side played on grass at Bredon the next day when Tewkesbury were the hosts. Sue Harper led the attack with fine support from Julie Stowe and Holly Hicks.

A goalless first half was soon forgotten when Tina James gave the visitors the lead soon after the restart. The home side fought back strongly and, despite good work in midfield from Hannah Jordan and Lisa Harris, Tewkesbury levelled with a fine strike.

Goalkeeper Fiona Jordan made several excellent stops to keep the visitors, who just nine players, level until the hosts snatched the winner with virtually the last hit of the game.

This Sunday's game is at Brockworth (11am).
