EMBROIDERERS' GUILD: The guest speaker at the November meeting of the Stour Valley branch of the Embroiderers' Guild was Mrs Jennifer Short. Jennifer outlined the Embroiderers' Development Scheme set up by the Guild, which includes the advantage of receiving an independent opinion on the work carried out.
Jennifer illustrated her talk with a wonderful display of her work - an amazing variety of dolls - handmade and with dress exact in every detail. This involves a considerable amount of research into costumes and design. From a wonderful dolly pedlar to a gathering of clowns; a 'bird in a gilded cage'; Gertie - a girl's head on a stick; a Chinese doll in a box; a delightful 'river goddess'; a spectacular and colourful voodoo doll; and many many others. For each time, Jennifer showed her original sketches and explained in detail the materials used. This was a most interesting and entertaining afternoon. The next meeting on December 13, will be a social afternoon with Sue Loveridge talking on her visit to China.
