GARDENING CLUB: The next meeting will be on November 23 at 7.30pm and will be at Wulstan Hall - a mince pies and wine evening, with a Worcester Wild Life sales table, and a talk by Gary Blake on Our National Parks. As always, new members and guests will be welcome.

THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION - WOMENS SECTION: The Pershore branch held their monthly meeting on November 7 at Wulstan Hall. The meeting commenced with the Exhortation and Silent tribute given by the chairman, Wendy Griffiths. This was followed by the secretary's and treasurer's reports. Business for the coming month was discussed, including the details for the remembrance weekend. Mrs Ray Green gave her report as delegate at the County Conference held at County Hall on October 28. Refreshments were then served followed by the '150' monthly draw and raffle. A quiz compiled by John Dale then took place, this caused some amusement among the members, with the answers they had given. Next month's meeting will be on December 5, there will be no meeting in January.

FILM AT NUMBER 8: Pershore and District Film Society, a new season's films now on 35mm stereo 'Onegin' starring Ralph Fiennes and based on a tragedy by Russian novelist Alexander Pushkin, set in St Petersberg during the days of the Russian Empire, Saturday at 7.30pm.

TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD: On a typical November morning, the chairman was delighted to see so many members present for the monthly meeting of the Townswomen's Guild. She welcomed one new member, Mrs A M Moore and six visitors. Mesdames Machin, Emney Brook, Pye and Higgins and Miss Wilcox. She was pleased to report that the recent coffee morning had been well-attended and a great success; the acting Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs Grantham, were present, also six members from St Peter's Guild. After a long absence, due to ill-health, Mrs R Archer and Mrs Bain were welcomed back to the guild. Members were reminded that payment was now due for the millennium lunch on December 8, for which the drama group, will provide the entertainment and also at the January meeting. Due to the present transport problems, the Federation meeting which had been arranged for November 13, has had to be cancelled. Members were urged to support two events in which Pershore Guild will be competing: A skittles match on November 21 at The Coach and Horses, Pinvin at 7pm against St John's Guild's team. Then on December 7, at St Agatha's Hall, at 2.30pm, the quiz team will be matched against Malvern Link Guild. Mrs Loach reported that the next meeting of the Literary Appreciation Group, will be on December 4, when, as well as discussing a novel by Rebecca West, there will be a talk by Mr A Sinfield. The Ramblers group will not be meeting again until next Spring.

But Mrs Elliott gave an interesting account of their last walk from Fladbury to Lower Moor. After coffee, Mrs Dorothy Norman showed some of her wonderful collection of Indian embroidery and explained its origins. In giving the vote of thanks, Mrs J Nicholds thanked her for a fascinating talk and display. A raffle was held, which Mrs A Jones announced had raised £57.50. The next meeting will be on December 5 in Wulstan Hall at 10am, when Mr J Massingham will talk on 'Lifting the curtain on Diplomatic Life'. The sales table will be Christmas goods. Visitors and new members always welcome.
