STOURPORT'S scheduled North Midlands One fixture with Bishops Castle was postponed due to the flooding - but they made hard work of a 25-7 friendly win at Droitwich 2nds.

The home side, fielding a changed but strong line-up, rose to the challenge well but conceded two early penalties which fly-half Richard Dorrell, back in goal-scoring form, kicked for Stourport.

Wet and windy conditions resulted in several handling errors throughout the game for both sides yet this did not deter Stourport.

Man of the match, winger Andy Bourne, completed a move from the back-line with a powerful run through two tacklers to score the first try, converted by Dorrell.

The Droitwich pack put in a good rucking performance but were always out scrumaged by the Stourport pack.

However, this was tested when Stourport hooker Steve Perera was given a yellow card and sin binned for 10 minutes for dissent to the referee.

With 14 men on the pitch, it only took one handling error to let the home side centre fly-hack a loose ball through for a converted try to leave the half-time score at 13-7.

Stourport improved in the second half but struggled to do more than enough to see them through to the final whistle.

With the pack working well, captain Andy Hubbold picked up from a five-metre scrum and sent flanker Les Pimm over for a try, which Dorrell converted.

Stourport nearly scored again from the restart as they took the ball from their 22m line with a good phase of short passing and running between forwards and backs.

Flanker Charlie Corbett was unlucky not to earn a try after having a comanding game on the blindside.

Droitwich were never out of the game and the back-line was only denied by the conditions and strong Stourport tackling.

With Droitwich failing to score from their periods of pressure, it was Bourne who again broke through to score the last try of the game for the visitors.

Stourport's match with promotion rivals Bishops Castle is yet to be rearranged.
