PLANS for Bidford's new school, library, nursery and parish meeting room go on show to the public this weekend.

Bidford county councillor Brian Slaughter hopes that putting the plans on show will kill rumours circulating in the village about the scheme having fallen through.

He said: "I want people to realise that this is going to happen."

Last Thursday a meeting of Warwickshire County Council's cabinet approved the scheme.

He added that the cabinet's approval was a major step forward and the county council could now negotiate with contractors about starting the work.

Coun Slaughter said construction work could start next April with an estimated completion date of August 2002.

The complex will be built on land off Westholme Way, which Beazer Homes donated to the county council as part of its planning permission.

It is being financed through funds generated by the sale of the existing school's Victoria Road site and other county council-owned land next to the fire station.

The parish council, which will have a meeting room in the development, is also contributing.

The plans will be among the displays at the parish council-organised 'Village Day' which will be held at the Crawford Hall between 11am and 4.30pm on Saturday.

During Saturday's village day, residents will also be invited to have their say on what other community initiatives they would like to see happening in the village.

The parish council and other local groups will be on hand to talk about what they do, what they would like to do and to listen to what residents want to see happening in the village.
