ON Sunday, as many others in villages, towns and cities across the country, we remembered those who gave their lives in battle. The warmth and beauty of the day as we stood at the War Memorial, gazing down through the park and across the river, made the occasion all the more poignant.
I would therefore particularly like to thank all those who attended the Parade and Service in All Saints Church and whose contribution gave such honour to 'they shall not grow old as we that are left grow old'. The representatives of so many organisations and the extremely high quality of the turn-out of so many young people left me with an enormous sense of pride and humility.
I was hitherto unaware of the number of war graves of foreign servicemen and women in our town and as I went round with members of the Royal British Legion to place a cross upon each, I was reminded of the extreme youth of so many of the dead. We do indeed owe them all a debt of honour which should never be forgotten. So many, many thanks to everyone who contributed on Remembrance Sunday in keeping alive those precious memories. We will remember them.
COUN MRS M STEPHENSON, Town Mayor of Evesham, Mayor's Parlour, Evesham.
