SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Peter Kitchen has become the youngest team captain in the 100-year history of Kidderminster Chess Club.
Kitchen has been thrown in at the deep end as the Pawns prepare for a Worcester and District League Division One fixture against Knights on Tuesday.
The Knights thrashed Pawns 4-0 in a cup match last season and are odds on to repeat the result.
Captained by John Wrench, the Knights suffered a disappointing 3-1 home loss against Worcester St Johns.
But they were beaten at this stage last season and went on to do the league and cup double.
Results (Kidderminster names first): J Friar 0, S James 1; M Bissell 0.5, G Dyett 0.5; P Yates 0, M Miletitch 1; G Link 0.5, S Foster 0.5.
