A DRIVER has died after the car he was driving careered off the road near Fernhill Heath.
Five firefighters from Worcester's White Watch were called to the scene at 5.30pm yesterday in Back Lane, Porters Mill, Ladywood.
Alec Mackie, spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade, said initial calls were from people passing by who thought that the red VW Golf was on fire.
But it was not ablaze when the firecrew arrived at the scene.
The driver, who was believed to be in his 60s, was taken to Worcester's Ronkswood Hospital, where he was certified dead.
"The firefighters helped the ambulance crew to recover the driver and stayed to ensure the car was safe," said Mr Mackie.
Worcester police declined to release any more information on the driver, as formal identification had not taken place.
