UNEMPLOYMENT has fallen across Worcestershire and Herefordshire for the second time in two months.

Figures released today by the Office of National Statistics showed the number of people out of work and claiming benefit fell by 3.7 per cent in Worcestershire and 1.6 per cent in Herefordshire.

The jobless total in Worcestershire stood at 1,742 last month compared with 1,771 in September.

Unemployment figures in Herefordshire dropped from 6,315 to 6,079 in the same period.

Leominster saw the number of people out of work drop from 274 in September to 254 last month, a 7.3 per cent fall.

Bucking trend

Kidderminster recorded a 4.4 per cent drop in the jobless total, leaving 1,230 people out of work in the carpet town.

Worcester saw 61 extra people in work last month, compared with September.

The 3.5 per cent fall meant 1,684 city residents were out of work last month.

Hereford's jobless total fell a flat 0.7 per cent to leave 1,344 people out of work and claiming benefit.

Only Evesham bucked the two counties' trend, recording a 0.9 per cent rise in the number of unemployed leaving 459 residents without a job.
