WORCESTERSHIRE'S best bosses could be rewarded for their parent-friendly policies.

Following the success of last year's competition, the charity Parents At Work and sponsors Lloyds TSB are scouring the country to find Britain's Best Boss 2000.

The competition aims to reward individual employers and line managers who promote a greater understanding of balancing work and home life.

The winner will be given a weekend trip to Paris while the person who nominates them will receive a bottle of Champagne.

Organisers are looking for employers who encourage staff to balance work and home life, make sure family emergencies do not turn into crises, know when the school holidays are and encourage workers to use their full holiday allowances.

They must also value part-time staff and ensure promotion does not end with maternity leave.

"Many organisations are now realising the benefits of helping their employees balance work and home lives and we are seeing lots of great policies put in place," said Sarah Jackson, chief executive of Parents at Work.

"We're looking for a manager who really makes work-life balance a reality for their employees."
