RETIREMENT is usually a time for relaxation but two Bromsgrove sisters have shown ardent loyalty to their former boss by supporting his legacy.

Audrey and Ivy Spalding, of Rock Hill, worked for the founder of the Pamela May, the late Bernard Clem-ents.

They witnessed his dreams of providing a life-enhancing service for the sick, needy and disabled become a reality in 1995.

Audrey, aged 71 and 68-year-old Ivy worked in the offices at Mr Clements's family display company for 46 years.

The sisters, who live together, devote many hours each week during the summer season ensuring that passengers on the twice-daily trips are comfortable.

Audrey said: "Bernard was a good boss and loved to conduct charity work for the elderly and sick.

"He began organising parties for nursing home patients in his garden and asked us to help.

"When he completed the Pamela May project, we began working on the boat. It's great to see the joy it brings to people."

She said they were delighted with the success of the Advertiser/Messenger appeal.

Audrey added: "The support readers have given has been extraordinary and it's been fantastic watching the fund build up.

"Bernard would have been tickled pink to see so many people supporting his dream. I'm very proud to be part of it."
