FAST food giant McDonalds has failed to serve up a hat-trick of treats for its customers in Kidderminster after its bid to build a third restaurant in the town was thrown out.

The application to build the eatery on land next to Park Street, Chapel Street and the ring road island at Bewdley Road was refused by district councillors on Tuesday despite a recommendation for approval by planning officers.

Councillors at the planning (development control) meeting feared the restaurant would create noise disturbance and traffic congestion.

Development control chief Jake Berriman said they also worried about such an amenity being an eyesore for nearby residents.

The proposed site for the building was on land cleared many years ago to make way for the fifth stage of the ring road development which was eventually axed.

Mr Berriman added he was unsure whether the firm would submit another application to build a third restaurant elsewhere in Kidderminster.

McDonalds already has a restaurant in Worcester Street in the town centre and a drive-through site in Worcester Road.
