IN this day and age where match fishing is generally a male dominated sport, it was a welcome change to hear of 14-year-old Leanne Ashington who has just landed a full sponsorship deal with Jack Purchase Angling Holidays, who also sponsor some of our England Ladies Team members.

Leanne -- who is a very skilled and competent angler for her age -- is over the moon with the deal, which will allow her to compete on a level playing field against her male opponents, so watch out for her name.

On Tuesday the Tim's Tackle open at Elmbridge was held on the Pheasant Pool, which saw Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure) take a winning 51-10-0 of big carp with pole fished pellets from peg 15. Second Gerald Westwood (Tim's Tackle) 36-6-0, third Bill Drew (Bewdley) 30-6-0. Yours truly lost 14 carp off the hook but I still managed fourth place with a 21-12-0 catch.

The Starlets Veterans of Northfield were at Moorlands Farm's Bank and Moors Pools for its event which saw Redditch angler Phil Hill in top spot by pole fishing worms with maggots at Moors Pool peg eight for 28-13-0. Second John Osman (Northfield) 26-6-0, third Stan James (Bewdley) 21-15-0.

On Wednesday the Astwood Fisheries Bluebell Pool open was won by Gary Kirkham (Astwood) from peg three, where he pole fished sweetcorn for 18-5-0 of carp. Second Chris Newton (New End AC) 13-9-0, third Paul Webley (Kateshill AC) 13-7-0.

At Moorlands Farm the Bank and Moors Pool open was headed by Tewkesbury tackle shop owner Danny Caldwell, who pole fished maggots at Bank Pool peg four for a mixed catch of 64-12-0. Second Wayne Ainsworth (Mid City) 48-10-0, third Alan James (Moorlands) 42-8-0.

The Thursday Special open saw Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) take a top catch 62-4-0 from Moors Pool peg seven with pole fished white maggots. Runner up Keith Tonks (Strettons) had 59-11-0, third Keith Finch (Strettons) 40-12-0.

Friday's Costcutter open was won by John Nott (Moon AC) with a pole and maggot catch of 43-1-0 from Moors Pool peg 13. Keith Perry (DC Lifestyle) followed with 40-3-0 from Bank Pool peg 24, third Bob Jones (Moorlands) 20-2-0.
