REFERENCE the front page article in last week's edition 'top job goes in re-organisation'.

This Tory council tells us endlessly how open and honest it is in the decision-making process.

How is it then that a week after the chief executive David Bryant's departure I, as an elected member, have not had any sort of communication from the council telling me what is going on?

There has been no council meeting to discuss this issue; there is nothing on the full council agenda, which will be held on November 14. I suppose it could be raised as an urgent item but that would be a bit much as they must have been planning this for weeks.

The only clue that elected members might be told something is a special policy and resources meeting on November 22 at 5pm, followed by a full council meeting at 6pm.

If the meeting is to discuss this issue it is obvious by the time allowed, that they intend to push this through with the minimum of debate and discussion.

At a meeting on November 1, when the redundancy of the head of personnel services was rushed through, the chief executive explained in his report that he would be taking on a large part of the job responsibilities - this is going to prove difficult now, isn't it?

The other point I would make is that the Tory leadership must have been discussing this with a senior officer of the council, presumably a close colleague of Mr Bryant's. Well, whoever they are, I hope they are watching their back because they might well be next. Does this sound like the action of an open council?
