Storm clouds failed to put a dampener on a charity lunch in Kidderminster which raised £435 for cancer research.
Although a few guests were marooned at home as the River Severn burst its banks more than 60 people turned up for the event organised by Cancer Research Campaign's Wyre Forest committee at the Gainsborough House Hotel.
Cancer research scientist Dr Simon Grumett described how it was hoped developments in gene therapy would lead to breakthroughs in the fight against cancer.
A committee spokeswoman said: "We were delighted so many people were able to make it despite the terrible weather."
