KIND-HEARTED Wyre Forest people are pulling together to do their bit for this year's Children in Need appeal.

Punters from the Golden Lion pub are taking part in a series of fund-raising events this week.

The effort began with a quiz at the George Street pub and continues on Saturday with a host of weird and wacky events.

One of the organisers Brian Hook said a wheelchair walk around town, raffles, competitions and pool contests were among the activities.

"I am also going to shave off half my beard for three days and we already have £200 pledged in sponsorship."

On a more painful variation on shaving, Matthew Smith, of Bookers Cash and Carry at Hoo Farm Industrial Estate, endured having his legs waxed for the charity and raised £100 to add to the £600 his colleagues collected from a tombola.

Mr Smith said: "It hurt a lot. I shall think of something more comfortable next time. Perhaps a sponsored snog!"

Brintons Walking Club, meanwhile, plan a torchlight stroll in the company of teddy bears tomorrow from the Heath Hotel, Bewdley, at 7pm.
