CROWDS of Droitwich Spa residents gathered in the town centre to honour fallen soldiers.

Families and war veterans joined in Sunday's Remembrance Parade.

Mayor Don Lawley led the procession, which began in Station Street, at 10.15am and made its way to Victoria Square.

The service began with the hymn O God Our Help In Ages Past followed by a two-minute silence to remember those who gave their lives for their country during the two world wars and other campaigns.

A sea of red poppies swamped the Spa's War Memorial as wreaths were laid by groups and dignitaries, including Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff.

After prayers, the crowds gathered at St Andrew's Church, in St Andrew's Street, for the final service.

The Salvation Army band played hymns and music and members of the Spa's Royal British Legion were out in force.

The mayor, who is also a Droitwich Spa town councillor, said the event pulled in the best turnout he had seen in 32 years.

He added: "It was a marvellous procession. I have never seen so many people in Victoria Square, especially youngsters.

"St Andrew's Church was packed and the sun shone gloriously as we paid tribute to those killed in conflict."

A TIME TO REMEMBER: Sisters Hannah and Olivia Simpson lay crosses for their relations.
