THE work of a Spa charity has been taken over by an out-of-town organisation.

The Roundabout group, based in Evesham, has taken over the role of Droitwich Furniture Recycling Project.

Volunteers hope to continue the good work of the charity and expand the service.

Roundabout has been running for six years and has 18 voluntary members of staff.

It collects good quality furniture, toys and electrical items from generous residents and passes them onto people in need.

The organisation operates a collection and delivery service throughout south Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Gloucester.

Families and individuals can receive items for free, although they are asked to meet delivery costs.

Droitwich Spa and Rural Council for Voluntary Service launched the original project in April 1997 at the Old Library Centre, in Ombersley Street East.

Service manager Sue Poyer said: "We set up the scheme to test the viability and it proved a success.

"We were always looking for someone who could provide a more sustainable service and are delighted its future has been secured."

Roundabout manager Bob Pooler said: "We are looking forward to working in the area.

"Our service is two-pronged. We need residents to give to us so that we can give to others."

The details of recipients are passed to the charity by referral agencies including social services, the probation service, Citizens' Advice Bureau, women's refuges, church groups and health groups.
