REDDITCH Bus Station will finally close its doors forever on Monday with the helping hand of cartoon character Bob the Builder.

The last bus will be driven away in the morning before the reviled station is demolished and rebuilt as part of a major £60 million project to revamp the centre.

And Kingfisher Centre owners Thornfield have organised a ceremony outside the Station Way building to mark the occasion.

A temporary bus station has been created in Church Green West which will see up to 200 buses an hour travelling down Bates Hill.

A spokesman for Thornfield said: "Everything is going really well with the whole development."

And the spokesman said there had been positive talks with market traders over their temporary relocation after it was announced Debenhams would be opening up in the town centre's Royal Square in 2002.

The spokesman added: "The buildings around Royal Square are all either coming to the end of their lease or relocating but it will be part of the development process

Assistant manager of Royal Square nightclub Odyssey, Dave Rogers, said: "At the moment we are not sure what is happening but we will have to close in the near future.

"We are hopeful we will be able to relocate somewhere in the town.

"Obviously we are concerned because another club might be opening up which will have a knock-on effect on us, but when we cease trading, we cease trading."
