IN Division One of the Bromsgrove and Redditch Table Tennis Association the two top teams had comfortable victories.

The Newton Works A team of Mark Fiddian, Chris Maiden and Michael Kendall were too strong for Himbleton A, winning 10-0.

Lickey Monarchs dropped their first points of the season away to Droitwich A. Roy Norton was in great form for Lickey, winning his three games. He was well backed up by his two team mates Martin Clarke and Steve Mullard who both won two. Duncan Arrandale had a great night by beating Clarke and Mullard to get Droitwich two wins.

Barnt Green Tennis A had a hard game against Hillcrest A, winning 6-4. Captain Mark Cornish won all his three games for Barnt Green and with two wins by David Stuckey they were winning 5-4 when it came to the doubles. This they won by beating Arthur Bartram and Terry Pountney in an exciting game 21-13, 19-21, 24-22. Arthur Bartram did the best for Hillcrest, winning two of his singles with Pountney and Darren Williams getting one each.

Newton B could only manage two players for their game with Astwood Bank but put up a great fight when going down 7-3, with five of the seven games played going to the best of three. Gary Jackson won two of his games for Newton and then won the doubles 21-19, 13-21, 22-20 with his partners Alan Hall. Jim Conner won both his games with Dave Wood and Ken Southwell also getting one each for the Bank.

There were two local derbies in the Second Division last week: Studley Road Nomads had an easy win over the Terriers, winning 9-1. Peter Hartles was the only winner for the Terriers when he beat Bernie Leech in a close game 21-15, 18-21, 21-17. Jeff Lines and Gary Steele were undefeated for the Nomads.

The other game between the two Droitwich teams was much closer; the B team winning 6-4. Simon Tibke, the B team's number one, won his three games while Philip Harris and John Hughes got one each. For the C team Luke Worniak and Dave Watson won two each. In the doubles with the score at 5-4 to the B team Tibke and Harris beat Worniak and Watson in an exciting game 19-21, 21-12, 21-19 to give the B's victory.

Lickey Panthers and Barnt Green Hornets' game ended in an exciting 5-5 draw. Ivor Anderson won his three games for the Hornets, and with Ian Anderson and Paul Grigg getting one each they led 5-4 with the doubles to come. However, they lost to Geoff Unitt and Lynn Davies, who won 15-21, 26-24, 21-16. Unitt and Davies each won two singles for the Panthers to give the home team a well earned draw.
