THROUGH your columns, please allow me to make the following points:
l No traffic management problem can be looked at in isolation. Redditch folk should support the Studley bypass.
l A professional Worcestershire County Council managing engineer estimates a worst case scenario could see 35 per cent more traffic on Redditch's already crowded roads, especially on the A441 through Astwood Bank and Crabbs Cross.
l To build anything less than a two-lane (Option 1) bypass would be short-sighted.
l A public inquiry determined the route of the Studley bypass years ago.
l Land for the bypass is in the ownership of Worcestershire County Council and Warwickshire County Council.
l The process of compulsory purchase for a different route of land, followed by an inevitable public inquiry, could take years and cause unnecessary costs to council taxpayers.
l While supporting the above, I would submit that elected members and the public should continue to support the case for the Bordesley bypass, which is also of critical need.
