ATTEMPTS to put up Christmas trees in Worcester went to seed when they were deemed not good enough for the Faithful City.

City council staff put the trees up at the Lychgate roundabout, near Worcester Cathedral and at the Bull Ring, St John's, yesterday.

But during a quality control check, officials felt they were not up to standard.

"We're responsible for checking the trees and we noticed that they didn't look good enough," said Ian Yates, parks and cemeteries manager at the council.

"We spoke to the suppliers and they've agreed to change them for us so the new trees were due to go up today."

Last year the council was criticised for providing the city with a "short, lopsided tree."

A Worcester father said the city should have had a better tree which was of better quality.
