A MEMBER of a hen-night party turned away from a Worcester nightspot says she is so incensed at their reaction she is considering taking legal action.

Dawn Teague, manager of the Spar shop in Warndon, said the attitude displayed by doormen at Bushwackers was discrimination.

"We're all up in arms about this, it's disgusting," said Ms Teague.

In Saturday's Evening News it was reported that bride-to-be Lin Higginbotham and her friends and colleagues from the Spar shop were escorted from the Trinity Street bar after some of the 14-strong group were refused entry.

Twenty-one-stone Mrs Higginbotham claimed only larger members of the group were asked to leave.

Bushwackers has defended its actions, saying the group did not have the right image.

Speaking after an appearance on today's GMTV, owner Craig Pinches said he was surprised at the publicity generated from the complaint, adding that the club had received support for its stance.

"We have never described it as a weight issue, they just didn't fit the criteria for Bushwackers," said Craig, who runs the club with brother Darren.

"I feel sorry for them. We never brought up this weight issue. They brought it up themselves by going to the paper.

"If you are smart and wearing the right clothes you will get in. We just like to be surrounded by nice people."

But the group, which approached GMTV, say they are considering legal action.

"What they said in the Evening News made us out to be scruffy, when we were all smartly dressed," said Ms Teague.

"The doormen were very arrogant and rude. We could have understood why they didn't let us in if we were scruffy, but we weren't.

"We weren't loud or out of control. I couldn't believe they openly admitted that we weren't allowed in because we weren't Barbie look-a-likes.

"It was humiliating and degrading, especially for Lin whose hen-night it was."

Meanwhile, the manager of another city centre nightspot has stepped in and offered Mrs Higginbotham and a friend a free meal after reading about their Bushwackers experience.

"We have an open door policy. The only thing we enforce is a dress policy," said John Rose, of Chicago Rock Caf Bar in New Street.

"We'd like to show Mrs Higginbotham that everyone's welcome here."
