THE first thing you notice about this production is that the stage is covered in real earth.
Not fake earth or a clever piece of trickery, but barrow-loads of fertile peat. It's as if someone had ploughed the stage the night before and the play itself is ploughing the same rich furrow.
It tells of Peter Brent, a farmer whose very being is the land he lives and works on. His is a love of the land which knows no bounds and even his wedding night is spent with a calving cow. Sidney Livingstone is excellent as Brent in this gentle and light-hearted story which gives the strong cast a chance to shine. There is humour and a gentle charm which reflects both the joy and hardship of rural life. Enjoy it while you can. AW
It plays until November 11.
