DROITWICH Rugby Club opened up a one point lead at the top of the Midlands Four West South table with a battling 11-5 home victory over Cleobury Mortimer on Saturday.

Their nearest challengers are now Silhillians who were held to a 0-0 draw when they entertained Berkswell B.

The saturated conditions at Droitwich caused a number of errors although the home side's forwards did well and held the upper hand, particularly in the first half.

Droitwich's efforts were finally rewards after 20 minutes when Sacha Hobbs went over for a fine try which Matt Blackmore was unable to convert.

Blackmore, however, was bang on target with two penalties which gave his side a 11-0 half time lead.

Cleobury had the better of the second half exchanges and reduced the deficit with a try five minutes from the end.

They are now fourth in the table on the same number of points as Pershore whose scheduled home game with Stoke OB was postponed.

In Midlands One Hereford secured a well earned 16-9 away win over Stoke - the first time they have triumphed against them in a league match.

Winger Ian Lively went over for a try with fly half Jeremy Wheadon putting over the conversion plus three penalties.

The first half was a closely fought affair with the sides being deadlocked on 6-6 at the interval.

Luctonians clinched a 20-7 victory at Wolverhampton in Midlands West Two.

Jon Goodwin opened their account with a penalty after four minutes, but were trailing 7-3 at half time.

After the break Ben McGowan went over for a try which Will Price converted.

Price also landed a penalty before adding the extra points to a Steve Jacques try.

Luctonians are third in the table which is headed by Malvern who won 29-16 at home to Sutton Coldfield.

A first minute penalty by Proctor and a 12th minute try by Lockley rocked Malvern who responded with an Andy Longley penalty and a Dave Beech try who was convered by Longley.

Procter slotted another Sutton penalty before Beech notched another try.

Longley sent over a couple of penalties before winger Jim Callow raced over for a superb try.

Longley's 65th minute penalty put the result beyond doubt, although Sutton never gave up.

The win puts Malvern two points clear at the top of the table with fifth place being occupied by Bromsgrove who fought out a 3-3 draw at Lichfield.
