SIX boys from Hillstone, Malvern College, were successful in winning the regional qualifying round of the National Prep Schools soccer six-a-side contest.
The region included schools from as far afield as Sheffield and York. The matches were held at Birchfield, Albrighton on Saturday, October 14.
Hillstone qualified on goal difference from their pool. Three draws were followed by an excellent 4-0 victory over Prestfelde and a further draw against Sheffield side Westbourne.
In the semi-finals Hillstone played Foremark, and drew 2-2 in normal time. A 3-2 victory in the penalty shoot out saw them into the final. Replaying against Westbourne, Hillstone again drew, this time 1-1. Golden goal extra time was decided on and a goal from Mongkolratanachat proved the deciding moment.
The six now go forward to the national finals to be played in Shrewsbury on December 9.
Victory for Hillstone was made all the sweeter for the competition organiser, former Hillstone headmaster Mr Roger Gillard.
The Hillstone six were Tom Pardhy (goalkeeper), Ayo Afolabi, Tom Chappell, Oliver Stone, Charles Lister and Saraj Mongkolratanachat.
