AN era ends on Saturday when Evesham Post Office closes its High Street doors for the last time.

It re-open inside the Co-op store in Riverside Shopping Centre next Monday.

Post Office staff this week have been inundated with customers expressing their sadness at the closure. The card shop in the office has already closed.

The controversial decision to move the office was taken by Post Office Network despite a barrage of protests. The network has promised service will remain as good, but people are concerned it will not be as accessible.

Post office staff have written to the Journal thanking their customers for all their loyal support over the years and their encouragement during the past few months.

The letter says: "All the staff have now got new jobs, either at the new post office in the Co-op or in other post offices. Some have opted for a complete change of career.

"Thank you again for all the concern shown to us. The staff moving to the new office in the Co-op hope to see you there and will continue to give a good service."
