I WOULD like to respond to Joy Turner's letter (You Say, Nov 1), in which she expressed her annoyance with the "miserable, moaning gripers" who voice concerns regarding our Health Service.

I would like to assure Mrs Turner that although many people have aired their views about the reorganisation/disorganisation programme, everyone has maintained their support for the staff who provide the service.

Perhaps if she had attended the recent health crisis meeting she would have come to realise that the "miserable moaning gripers" she mentions were, as well as patients, none other than nurses, GPs and consultants.

They were voicing their concerns about a public service that has been ruined by countless government health strategies and cuts in funding.

No one can lay the blame purely with this Government, as others in the past are just as guilty. But the reorganisation of Worcestershire Services has been openly condemned due to the building of a undersized County Hospital, the closure of Kidderminster general and the transfer of orthopaedics and urology to Redditch.

No one wants a return to pre - NHS times when disease ran rife and medical care was only for the privileged, but this is the year 2000 and patients should at least expect a bed - not a trolley - in their local hospital if illness prevails.

They should not have to worry about such issues as transport to hospital when they feel unwell.

Give some thought for the people of Wyre Forest, Mrs Turner, who I'm sure will not appreciate being labelled "miserable, moaning gripers"!

A BIRBECK,

Worcester.
