n PARISH COUNCIL: Councillor C Spencer chaired the meeting with all councillors present, also 15 parishioners attended.

The parish clerk, Mrs A Cox, now has a fax machine and a new parish council phoneline: 01386 830127.

Ms A Morris, from Cotswold District Council gave a brief talk on the proposed Mickleton conservation area for reviewing boundaries. They requested support from the parish council, Mickleton Society, CPRE, PCC and others and asked for volunteers to form a steering group.

A representative for the parish council will be announced later, Mr Gott will represent Mickleton Society, Mr T Overton CPRE, Mrs F Harrison PCC, Mrs J Atkinson the village representative.

Mr Gillam, district councillor then gave his brief report.

n Landscape report: Proposed possible new housing developments north of Canada Lane, south of Broadway Road.

n Lighting in Granbrook Lane: Mr Gillam has met and spoken with Mr Mike Chamberlain and has agreed the new layout of street lighting in Granbrook Lane.

It will lose two proposed lights and two existing lights will be spaced further apart.

The street lights will only be sited on the council housing side.

Should the new lights interfere with shining into properties, the use of baffles has been promised.

It is hoped that work will commence in three months' time.

n The area liaison panel will meet in Blockley on November 7.

Councillors L Stowe and A Trainor will attend, where they will discuss alcohol-free zones in the village especially in the junior playing fields.

n Junior playing fields: The proposed crab apple and plum trees will be felled, weather permitting, in November, the small seat by the infant swings also will be removed and the path reinstated.

n Tree surgeon's report: A tree surgeon's help and cost estimation will be sought, for the large oak tree in the church car park and small oak tree on the allotment in a conservation area to receive the necessary treatment.

n Neighbourhood Watch: Councillors turned down a parishioner's request for financial assistance to help run a neighbourhood watch scheme in the Back Lane area and liaise with others in the village.

n Carol Concert: Will possibly take place outside the Three Ways Hotel, on December 21 or 22, at 7pm - depending which date Bretforton Brass Band is available.

It is planned to have a large Christmas tree on the plantation.

The collection this year will go to Shipston Cottage Hospital.

n Correspondence: A letter had been received concerning the lorries used by the Sims Metal.

It says that it has made new traffic arrangements and that no lorries should be parked down Long Marston Road before 7am or indeed on the road at all. It plans to restore the verges etc. if this is found not to be the case - please inform the clerk.

An urgent request was made by the Hedgehog Bus chairman, that it needed 10 new drivers.

The next parish council meeting will be held at 7pm, on November 29.

n MICKLETON SOCIETY: Sidney Canning gave his illustrated talk Architectural Curiosities at the November meeting, sharing his 30-year love of architecture and photography. Brian Wall gave the vote of thanks for a talk given with such expertise and humour, reminding us of the depth of culture we enjoy.

The next meeting is the Christmas supper on December 4.
