THE new matchday control room made its debut at Kidderminster Harriers Football Club on Saturday to complete the final part of a £340,000 improvement scheme.

And officials reported a smooth running operation during the encounter with Cheltenham Town.

The Aggborough club was ordered to build the control room as well as installing electronic turnstile monitoring and a new PA system when it achieved promotion to the Football League.

Club safety officer Peter Picken said: "The day was absolutely super from an operational point of view and now all the facilities are in place I can say they are even better than I originally thought.

"An inspector from the Football Licensing Authority visited the ground and said the matchday control facilities were on a par with those at an average division one stadium."

Police and other officials at Aggborough had been using a temporary control room while the 15-week improvement programme was being carried out.

The club had received a £235,000 grant from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, with chairman Lionel Newton pledging the remaining £105,000 for the work.
