WORCESTER Wolves maintained their lead at the top of the National Basketball League Division Three table with a 72-93 win at lowly Tamar Valley Cannons.

The long trek to Plymouth saw Worcester confirm the form book against a Plymouth-based team still without a win this year.

In the early stages, Colin Chiverton was in outstanding form for the Wolves and scored 12 points in the first eight minutes.

Ben Livingston also enjoyed an inspired spell and scored five three-pointers in the first quarter.

The Cannons had no answer to the Wolves assault and despite the long range efforts from Pete Holmes, they trailed at half-time 50-29.

But there was bad news for the Wolves just before the interval when Chiverton fell and sustained a wrist injury which kept him out of the rest of the game.

As in previous weeks, Worcester neglected their defensive duties. In attack Mick Vinsonnian was steady as always and Rick Solvason matched Livingston's first-half achievements by also scoring five three-point attempts.

Overall player-coach Solvason was content with the performance and happy to take the points from the long trip and maintain top position in the league.

This weekend sees a top of the table clash at University College Worcester when Wolves play Birmingham University (3pm).

A large crowd is expected on Sunday when doors open at 2.15 with cheerleaders and the Wolves light show.
