NEW Scottish snooker sensation Stephen Maguire is on a collision course for a Saturday showdown with Jimmy White in the Benson and Hedges Snooker Championship at Malvern.
Maguire, 19, recently won the IBSF world amateur title in China and last night at the Willie Thorne Snooker Club he scored an impressive 5-3 success over Joe Meara with breaks of 113 and 100.
The Glaswegian teenager faces White who is unbeaten in his last 13 matches and full of confidence. "I didn't show Jimmy the respect he deserved when we played a couple of months ago," said Maguire. "I went for too many shots that I shouldn't have done."
Bewdley's Richard King was looking for another red letter day today against Wolverhampton's John Read following his 5-1 second round success over Scot Kearney.
Another Worcestershire favourite, Dave Finbow from Alfrick, makes his first appearance in the tournament tonight when he faces Scunthorpe's Jeff Cundy.
