STOURPORT came out 47-7 winners in a friendly match that Woodrush 2nds were more intent in spoiling than playing.

The town side were forced to play away after their pitch on the banks of the River Severn was under several feet of water for most of the week.

Stourport took the game to the home side in the opening ten minutes through the forwards and hooker Steve Perera opened the scoring with a try after a line-out and drive.

Shortly afterwards, Perera took a ball against the head in a scrummage on the Woodrush 22m line and Andy Hubbold broke from No 8 to score.

The Stourport backs used every opportunity to run their moves and this led to tries by winger Lee Philip and full back John Malins.

Fly-half Richard Dorrell rediscovered his goal kicking to convert all four and make the half-time score 28-0.

In the second half, Stourport got on with the task in hand and with the pack solid, it was the backs who made the most of play.

Winger Toby Lee deservedly scored a try to add to his good all-round performance in the game.

The Woodrush scrum-half caught the Stourport defence off-guard with a quick blindside move from a ruck to score their only try.

Philip then added his second and Dorrell added the conversion. The match was finished when inside centre Rob Humphries broke through the Woodrush line to set Dorrell up for the last try which he converted.

The game was abandoned with 15 minutes left as the home referee punished a lack of discipline from both sides.

Stourport conceded three tries to the Warwickshire side but remained in contention with a try from prop forward Mark Stumpy plus a conversion and penalty from full-back Steve Griffin.

The home side took the lead in the first half with a try but missed the conversion in a close match which boasted some fine tackling.

Stourport lost flanker Monty Foster with an injured knee in the second period but took advantage of a penalty with 20 minutes left.

l Stourport 4ths were also beaten but they continue to improve and interested new players can come to training on Mondays or Thursdays.
