Evesham Colts U-14 3,

Southside Tigers 1

THE Colts turned in one of their best-ever performances to tame the Tigers in Sunday's Cheltenham and Gloucester League knockout competition.

Tim Beattie beat two players before striking a shot into the corner to give the Evesham lads an early boost but Southside hit back after the break to draw level.

However, that only served to spur Colts on even more and Nick Robbins cracked in a superb 25-yarder to regain the lead.

Five minutes later Beattie added his second to seal a notable victory and complete an excellent all-round display.

The back trio of Ben Tattersall, Clive Hodgkins and Scott Causier stood out and gave stand-in keeper Will Lloyd excellent support.

Bredon Colts U-10 1, Swan Lane 0

BREDON maintained their excellent start to the season as they overcame a well-organised visiting side.

There were chances at both ends in a competitive opening period before Craig Robinson pounced on a loose ball to fire what proved to be the clincher into the roof of the net.

The hosts dominated after the break but they failed to turn their possession into goals.

Martley Spurs 3, Peopleton U-13 7

PEOPLETON hit back from 2-0 down to record an emphatic win over their Worcestershire rivals.

A dubious opener when the ball was adjudged to have crossed the goalline gave Martley the lead but there was no doubting the validity of the their second as a fine strike gave the Peopleton goalkeeper no chance.

As the conditions deteriorated, so Peopleton's play improved and they drew level before the break.

Using the slope to maximum effect, the visitors dominated the second half and, had it not been for some fine stops by the Spurs keeper, they could easily have doubled their tally.

The goals came from Nat Bulmer (2), Nick Andrews (2), Andy Lamb, Dean Cloke and Luke Radford.

Harvington U-15 3,

Barnards Green 2

AN ENTERTAINING game played in heavy rain brought three points to Harvington thanks to a late winner from James Howard.

The visitors were first to strike when stand-in keeper Daniel Campion mishit a clearance.

Howard, Tom Edkins and Chris Drinkwater then combined to allow the latter to score at the second attempt and bring the scores level.

However, a long ball over the top again caught the Harvington defence napping and Green were soon back in front.

Goalkeeper Campion was replaced at the interval and his move to an outfield position brought swift reward when he netted the equaliser with a low shot.

Howard's winner was deserved on a wretched day when the home supporters at least went home happy.

Drakes Broughton Rangers 0,

Pershore Town 4

TOP of the table Town were made to battle all the way before securing a comfortable success.

The normally free scoring visitors failed to find their shooting boots as a determined Rangers side never gave up.

Pittville Utd 7, Badsey Rgrs U-13 2

RANGERS found themselves on the wrong end of a Sunday hammering despite Sam Linley giving his side the lead against the table toppers.

Pittville soon hit back and led 4-1 at the interval as Badsey spurned several chances to add to Linley's strike.

Both sides battled bravely against the elements after the restart when Pittville's finishing again proved the vital difference. Player of the match Linley added Badsey's second five minutes from time.

Evesham Utd Robins U-11 8,

Littleton 2

THE visitors gave a good account of themselves despite the final scoreline.

They opened the scoring early on but Evesham took the lead through Liam Scrivens and Bean Bearcroft. Further goals from Scrivens and Joe Smith ended the game as a contest before the former doubled his individual tally to make it 6-1.

Littleton never gave up and were rewarded with a second before Bearcroft and player of the match Jamie Kerr completed the scoring.

Littleton Jnrs U-10 2, Welford 1

A COMBINATION of poor finishing and a superb goalkeeping display by Welford's Mark Weston kept this game tighter than Littleton would have liked.

Littleton dominated the first half and were rewarded when Matt Goss's superb driving run and equally good cross picked out Matt Taylor to chest the ball over the line.

Goss and Ben Johns then combined to unlock the Welford defence and it was the latter's superb pass that found Ryan Clarke who blasted the ball home from close range.

Littleton continued to press and Weston produced a string of fine saves to keep his side in the game.

The second half found Littleton again pressing forward but again found Weston in fine form, making one notable save from Goss.

When Welford did get into Littleton's half they found Oliver Payne and Steve Edgehill in fine form. With time running out Littleton failed to clear their lines and Chris George was on hand to make it 2-1 and make the final scoreline closer than it should have been.

Elmley Castle U-11 1,

Alcester 2000 2

ALCESTER struck first in a match of two struggling sides when Sam Kirby found the net.

While Elmley wee still finding their feet they went 2-0 down as Peter Whittington found the net.

A more organised Castle side came out for the second half and a long-range effort from player of the match Josh Varah set up a frantic finale.

However, despite their late attacking surges it was Elmley who ended up losing a thrilling clash.

Badsey Rangers U-11 9,

Cleeve Colt Rvrs 0

RAMPANT Rangers easily overcame a side that had won their last three matches.

Badsey dominated the midfield from the first whistle but missed a number of chances before Jamie Clarke opened the scoring.

James White then made it 2-0 and Charlie Stanley's brave conversion of a third saw him leave the field with a leg injury.

A fourth goal from player of the match Ben Holland ended the first half scoring and Rangers went one better after the break as they played outstanding football to overwhelm the visitors.

Pete Heyes hit a hat-trick while the other two goals came from Clarke and Jamie Anderson.

Evesham Colts U-12 1,

Cleeve Colts 1

SUNDAY'S Cheltenham and Gloucester League game was spoiled by the weather and both sides will be happy with a point.

Evesham had the best of the first half and led 1-0 at the break courtesy of Will Gayton's chip.

The hosts found it almost impossible to clear their lines after the restart and Cleeve's dominance was rewarded with an inevitable equaliser.

Only some fine stops from Phil Edgeworth and a goalline clearance foiled Cleeve's attempts to grab a winner on a rain-soaked afternoon.

Stratford Utd U-11 0, Alcester 3

A FIRST minute foal from Layton meant that United were always chasing this game on a rain-affected surface.

Stratford goalkeeper Paul Evans produced a series of fine saves and, allied to the defensive qualities of Nathaniel Burton and Aaron Clements, ensured United were always in the game.

However, Alcester coped better with the conditions, and errors at the back let in Grant and Read to seal an Alcester win.

BRAZILIAN Soccer Schools, who are hoping to start a team in the area, are looking to recruit young players.

Training for youngsters aged eight and under will take place at Prince Henry's High School in Evesham on Saturday nights from 5.30pm.
