GOING into the Regal cinema, Evesham is like going into a time warp. I can remember in the 40s/50s when the foyer was painted in chocolate brown, inside the cinema was beautifully painted in lovely colours. Now its blue ceiling and red walls are not too inviting. It is nice to have art deco but the reason in going to the cinema is to see a film, admire dcor yes.

A new sound system put in two years ago. This was only a domestic one but thanks to a Dolby sound engineer Mr Willy Ford, who spent many hours free of charge, we got the best we could out of it. The sound now is very good and could be improved with a more up to date system and new speakers.

Most Evesham cinema-goers have gone out of town. Ask them to go to the Regal and give the sound system a try. In time all the other things you would like to see done will happen if everything goes to plan so just wait a while please. In the meantime, come back and see a film show and give us your opinion.

There is no big money to be made in the cinema business hence cinemas being sold to one company. There will be no big money spent on renewals, this will be a slow process and over a few years you will see improvements each time you visit the Regal.

Evesham cinema goers need a choice of films: four screens with more films a week; playing films on release is fine for one week but two/three or four weeks is not because most people want to see a film on the first week - when they see it on the second week they go out of town where they have other choices and they go the other weeks too and if they like it they keep going out of town.

PS As a film technician my saddest day was March 22 1980, my last screening at 8pm of A Force of One at the Clifton Essoldo. I hope in my heart I don't have to do the last picture show at the Regal. I worked many years at Clifton and more at the Regal.
