TALENTED sportsman Ted Baylis is determined to make the most of his second chance at a place in the English Schools football squad.

The Stourport High School A-level student is going for Midlands trials on Saturday, just 12 months after a bad leg break threatened to curtail his sporting future.

Baylis is something of an all-rounder, a midfielder for Chaddesley Corbett FC on Saturdays and Brintons Social on Sunday as well as a bowler for Kidderminster CC in the summer months.

But injuries have made it difficult for the 18-year-old who pulled on the whites for England's U-15s and originally saw cricket as his main priority.

However, he will be aiming to impress with the football at Studley FC and make the final 30 players that meet at Lilleshall, Shropshire.

The modest teenager admitted: "I was surprised when I found out because I went along last year and didn't play very well. The moment got to me and I was quite disappointed but it's unbelievable that I've got another chance and I cannot wait.

"I was playing for Malvern Town youth and had been seen by Kidderminster Harriers but then I went through with the keeper, was off balance and broke my left leg.

"I have been back two months now and am enjoying my football. I previously couldn't see myself playing before Christmas.

"I've always thought of cricket as being my main sport. Football's hard because there's so many good players. When I broke my leg, I thought that was football out of the window. But now you never know, I might get spotted by someone.

"My cricket has taken a bit of a battering because I've had a bad back. Because of that, I was playing for Kidderminster 2nds last season but am still involved with the Worcestershire academy. At the moment, I enjoy both sports and want to keep my options open."
