THE legacy of a committed Bromsgrove Rotarian will live on aboard the Pamela May thanks to a tremendous £1,000 donation from his trust.
Our appeal has been taken to another level following a generous pledge from the Len Giles Trust.
Len was a Bromsgrove Rotarian, and owned a shoe shop in Bromsgrove High Street.
He died in 1989 and in his legacy left a trust fund solely for the benefit of Bromsgrove residents.
As a dedicated Rotarian, Mr Giles wanted the trust to be administered by the Rotary Club of Bromsgrove.
Trustees read about our appeal and decided it well deserved a donation from the fund.
One of the Rotary organisation's main objectives is to enrich lives within the community.
Its work includes supporting libraries at junior schools, providing bursaries for students, organising trips for the elderly, and sending Christmas parcels to the needy.
Rotarian and Len Giles Trust chairman Bryan Eley, of Monument Lane, Rednal, told the Advertiser/Messenger: "When I read the first report on this project I thought it must be the best kept secret in town.
"We are of the opinion that the dedicated helpers on the Pamela May do a grand job in giving practical help for the welfare of the elderly, patients in Bromsgrove nursing homes and hospices.
"Through the Advertiser/Messenger we wish them a happy and rewarding 2001."
