Redditch 3 Stafford 2

THE first half saw Redditch spring to life with the new midfield of Kimbles and Allen on the mark and keeping possession.

Keeper Shute had little to do against the league leaders and the deadlock was broken in the 12th minute as the ball was expertly cleared by skipper Jason Spyer, who linked with Kimbles for Chris Thomas to slide the ball home.

Redditch's supporters gave them the edge as they drove out the opposition and forced the game back, with Hiles splitting the defence to allow support from midfield to take advantage.

And with Steve Cook supporting the ball was played around the defence for Phil Thomas to double the lead.

The ball was quickly gained from the re-start and Dudley and Thomas sprinted down the flank feeding Hiles who was impeded in the D for a short corner.

Grenville Rose was on target to open up a three point lead.

The second half saw a role reversal with Stafford pushing hard and Redditch on the back foot but dangerous on the break.

Stafford pulled one back from a shot outside the D and touched in by a defender but the controversial goal stood.

The second goal came from a well-worked short corner which left the defence and keeper stranded.

Redditch had two breakaway chances but neither Spyer nor Phil Thomas could capitalise.

The hosts hung on for an impressive win.

Man Of The Match: Jason Spyer.
