WYTHALL crashed 4-0 at home to Littleton A in Division Two of the Stratford Winter League.

Captain Colin Capper lined up with Pete Turner, Paul Foster and Dave Taylor.

Wythall B beat Morton-in-the-Marsh 3-1 in Division Three.

Wythall's first pairing of teenagers Dave Mountford and James Fox took on Dennis Fisher and Dave Hancock.

Mountford and Fox began well, breaking both opponents' serves to take the first set 6-2.

But the hosts fought back in an exciting set, breaking Fox's serve and taking the set 6-3.

This form continued in the third set with Morton building a 4-1 lead only for Fox and Mountford to fightback with their serve and volley game.

The pressure forced errors and the Wythall pair never lost another game, taking the set and match 6-4. Wythall skipper Kevin Turner and Ian Smith played Mick Simpson and Ian Merryman and controlled in the first set, winning 6-2.

The second set started with all four players holding serve for a 2-2 score, but the fifth game saw Merryman broken when Smith intercepted at the net with two vital points.

The Wythall pair took control with Turner's baseline play and Smith's volleys dominating and won the set and match 6-2.

The reverse rubbers saw Fisher and Hancock forcing errors from Turner and Smith constantly in the first set to win 6-1.

The second set saw a complete turnaround with the Wythall pair creating chances to win points by attacking at the net at every opportunity and winning 6-2 for a third set decider, but the Morton pairing regained control and won the set 6-1 and the match. The final match saw Mountford and Fox continue their fine form against Simpson and Merryman never letting them settle.

Wythall won the first set 6-2 and built up a lead in the second set by breaking early and eventually winning 6-3.
