REDDITCH Operatic Society returns to the Palace Theatre this month with its autumn production, a romantic comedy featuring a feast of stylish dance from the swinging sixties.

Following the huge success of Annie Get Your Gun last year, this year's show is Sweet Charity, which takes place at the Alcester Street venue from Tuesday, November 23, until Saturday, November 27.

The family show tells the story of Charity Hope Valentine, played by Alison Adams, who longs to leave her job as a dance hall hostess behind her but, as with all good stories, things are never that simple.

Charity's innocent and trusting nature leads her to form doomed relationships, including one with a man who pushes her into a lake.

The undeterred heroine also meets her film hero Vittorio Vildal and ends up spending an interesting night in a wardrobe.

Her life changes when she finally meets her perfect match, a claustrophobic who is stuck in a lift, and Charity is led on an adventure to the Rhythm of Life church.

Sweet Charity contains well-known songs, including Big Spender, The Rhythm of Life and If My Friends Could See Me Now and the production, which has a budget of £13,000, features more than 40 company members and an orchestra.

It is directed and choreographed by Paul Jones who was responsible for Me and My Girl, the society's biggest hit to date with the script written by Neil Simon and music by Dorothy Fields and Cy Coleman.

Performances start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £7 for Tuesday's performance, £7.50 or £7 (concessions) for Wednesday to Friday and £8 or £7.50 (concessions) for Saturday from the box office on 65203.
