A REDDITCH Funeral Directors is warning residents to be on their guard from bogus callers after an incident.

Two smartly dressed men called on a house in Woodrow claiming they were from Huntleys Ltd, Ipsley Street, Smallwood.

They referred to the cost of funerals and asked if there was anybody the resident knew in her family who was about to die.

She told them she didn't and closed the door before finding out exactly what they wanted but not before they had mentioned a sum of £4.

A Huntleys spokesman said: "This is disgusting, these men are either trying to get people to pre-pay for a funeral in instalments or trying to sell funeral insurance.

"This is nothing to do with Huntleys. We have never and will never knock on people's doors and inflict this on them.

"People come to us when they need to, we don't approach them.

"We want the public to be aware of this and if they are called on in this way they should turn the men away immediately."

A police spokesman said: "We are trying to sort out the problem of bogus callers of any description.

"This is a dreadful incident. Targeting people in this manner in these circumstances is terrible.

"If anyone is approached by callers such as these who they are concerned about, they should call the police on 584888."
