Redditch 13 Evesham 5

Evesham started strongly with their big pack looking to intimidate Redditch from the kick off.

The hosts held their discipline and began to overcome their aggressive opponents.

Gareth Davies and Mark Broom came close on the Evesham line and as Evesham became more indisciplined in defence, a number of penalty opportunities were conceded but Will Wilson was unable to convert.

But from a 24th minute penalty scrum half Neil Hodgkins broke up the blindside feeding winger Andy Irvine to score under the posts, Wilson converting.

Evesham's response was immediate driving Redditch to their own line with a succession of quickly recycled ball for their winger scored in the corner.

Redditch started the second half strongly, launching a number of attacks through Davies and Foster in the centre and winning more penalties only for Wilson to twice rattle the posts.

Evesham came back but each attack was thwarted by the superb Redditch defence.

The back row of Skelton, Ariss and Williams disrupted many of the Evesham moves and the Redditch back line pressurised their opponents out of the game.

The visitors resorted to foul play which saw three players sin binned.

Redditch took full advantage, driving their increasingly dispirited opponents downfield for Wilson to convert two late penalties.

Man of the match: Ron Skelton.
