COLWALL 0,
BOURNEMOUTH 1
COLWALL Women's Hockey Club played their fourth game of the season against the current leaders of the West Premier League, Bournemouth.
Colwall began the match positively with countless attacks in to the Bournemouth defence. Karen Hackley, Polly Bounds and Sue Williams worked tirelessly to try and open the scoring but Bournemouth worked well to clear the ball away from the danger area. A period of ten minutes of intense pressure from the home side could still not force an opening goal, despite earning several penalty corners.
Bournemouth scored what turned out to be the winner entirely against the run of play when Colwall's defence was caught sleeping allowing a cross to be deflected past the stranded keeper.
With nothing to lose Colwall began the next 35 minutes determined to get something from the game. The best chance of the game came when a quick break from Sue Williams committed the Bournemouth keeper leaving Nicky Hannigan to sweep the ball into the open goal but she unfortunately missed the opportunity and the ball went wide.
Not deterred by this Colwall continued to press forward but without any luck. In the latter stages of the game Bournemouth sensed their opposition tiring and nearly added to their lead with an intricate penalty corner routine. Fortunately the Colwall keeper made a reflex save to deny them
Colwall hope to get back to winning ways tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to Bristol to play Portishead.
