WORCESTER City boss John Barton is determined his side will not make its second major cup exit in successive weekends tomorrow.

City entertain Mangotsfield United in the FA Umbro Trophy first round tomorrow (3pm), still reeling from their FA Cup embarrassment at Hampton last weekend.

Another defeat tomorrow, against a side riding high in the Dr Martens League Western Division, could have a devastating effect on City's season. The would also miss out on the revenue that can follow on the back of a Trophy run.

But Barton hopes the mid-week Worcestershire Senior Cup win over Halesowen will have enabled the team to have got the Hampton horror show out of their system.

Barton said of the Trophy clash: "One-off knockout cup situations can go against you, and we found that to our cost last week.

"There are enough warning signs from the opposition to be fully aware of the task we have ahead of us.

"But it was a decent response against Halesowen, and we have to make sure we set ourselves up right for the game. If we do that I'm sure we can take care of the opposition."

Barton hopes that City can benefit from the Trophy as they did last season, when they reached the last 16.

"I thought our Trophy run kept us in the division last year -- we had an overspill from the cup games that helped our league form. I would like to think we can take the same rewards from a similar run."

Defender Martin Weir (knee) and striker Carl Tranter (thigh) will have fitness tests before tomorrow's game.

If they miss out, Barton is likely to field the side that beat Halesowen 4-1 in the Worcestershire Senior Cup on Monday, with midfielder Paul Carty ruled out by a one-match suspension.

City cancelled last night's training session in order to protect the pitch, and the club is confident tomorrow's game will go ahead despite the heavy rain. There are no plans for an inspection.
