TOWN'S Reserves returned to winning ways with a good result in the WFA Saturday Junior cup second round.

PERRYWOOD FC 1, MALVERN TOWN RES 4

The Town were asked to kick into the wind from the kick off and Perrywood used the conditions to push up to the half way line trying to catch the Town's forward line, which included the experienced Simon Judge making a welcome return from injury, in an effective offside trap.

However, it was Judge who held the ball up in the Perrywood penalty area before slipping Jamie Roberts in to score from close range to make it 1 -0 after 14mins.

On 18 mins Judge should of made 2 - 0 from the penalty spot after Danny White was pulled to the ground in the penalty area. Unfortunately his weak effort was comfortably held by the keeper. Judge did manage to make up for his earlier error when on 23 mins his strength took him past his marker on the far post to slot the ball home with a left foot drive for 2 - 0.

Kicking off the second half with the strong wind now in their faces, resolute defending was an early priority. A goal line clearance by Dave Cannon, and an excellent diving save from 16 year old keeper Barry Mclean from a speculative drive from 30 yards out by the veteran Dave Gormley kept the score at 2 -0.

But on 56 mins Perrywood gave themselves a life line when they reduced the arrears after Neil Bond was dispossessed on the edge of his own penalty area whilst trying to clear the ball upfield.

On 64 mins Roberts again out paced the Perrywood defence to repay Simon Judge for his assist in the first half by giving him the opportunity to score into an empty net from 15 yds out to make the score 3 - 1.

Then after 77mins skipper John Gibson was chopped down from behind in the area to allow Judge the chance of another penalty to ammend his earlier miss and to complete his hat-trick. This he did with ease when he rocketed the spot kick past a helpless goalkeeper.

This was a good hard earned result in appaling conditions and now puts the Reserves into the last eight of a County cup competition.
